Sunny and bright today. Drove up to Côte Rotie this morning, a few hours north of Châteauneuf - vines perched on incredibly steep hills, all syrah and viognier but of a different style and class. Tasting with a well-known producer - wines of an exquisite, refined quality not yet seen on the trip. Entrecôte, frites, and grenouilles for lunch in a local bar. An afternoon tasting on top of the hills - enormous and powerful wines full of licorice and spices. A leisurely drive through the Southern Rhone and a beautiful sunset. Tonight dinner in Avignon and tomorrow perhaps a bit of rest.
