A fog-covered morning, a sunny afternoon. Some croissants and coffee to start the day. Morning tasting with a producer in Châteauneuf - first a tour of the chateau's diversity of soils: fields of impossibly round galets roulés (as shown below), of soft gray sands, and of brilliantly white chipped stones. Then a tasting of exciting wines - two whites, two rosés, eleven reds. Lunch of baguettes and pressions before an afternoon tasting - another CDP winemaker of only two wines, both elegant. An evening tour of the vines with father and son winemakers across the valley in Seguret, followed by a tasting of another eight. A delightful dinner in town with winemaker and wife. Long day, palate fatigue, three more tomorrow.
